Madison
County Genealogical Society
Minutes of the Meeting - June 12, 2008
President, Robert Ridenour, called the
meeting to order.
Reports:
Librarian/Researcher Elsie Wasser reported that we had received articles from Scott
Delicate about his ancestor who was a Methodist minister in Wanda, Illinois.
These articles will appear in an upcoming issue of The Stalker.
An enquiry was received looking for the
records of the Troy Methodist Episcopalian church from the 1860s. The surname
of interest is Majors. This church was unfamiliar to anyone at the meeting.
A visitor to the Genealogy Room at the
library, Arlene McCabe of Andover, Kansas, is looking for information on the Goedecke family in Madison County.
Rev. Carl Nelson has sent us much
material on his ancestors -- the Williams family of Madison County. This
material will be placed in the family vertical file.
Twelve guests were present at this meeting, many due to their interest in our
speakers' excellent program.
Rebecca Pinkus
and her sister, Kathy Geisler, presented a program
titled Melville People
and Places. Rebecca and Kathy grew up in the Melville area. Their aunt, Lydia Keidel Collins, grew up there in the early 1900s and spent
most of her 102 years in the Melville area.
Their presentation covered from the
earliest known Melville pioneer, Moses Walker, in 1828 up through the 1980s.
The program included a photo/music DVD containing pictures of some of the early
residents and early Melville homes and businesses. The program concluded with a
question/answer/discussion session.
This presentation was very well done
and extremely interesting.
