Madison
County Genealogical Society
Minutes of the Meeting - March 13, 2008
President, Robert Ridenour, called the
meeting to order.
Reports:
Secretary Barbara Hitch reported that
the current membership level was 148
annual and 46 life members but renewals are still being received. She
stated that several of our life members had not responded to any attempts to
contact them and they would be dropped from the rolls. Barbara had the latest
issue of the Stalker available for the members present. She stated that we were
looking for someone to assume the job of labeling and mailing the Stalker. She
said she would handle the mailing through the Summer
issue.
Librarian/Researcher Elsie Wasser reported that we had several new cemetery books for
Greene County, Illinois. She reported that she had received research requests
from several people for the following families: Osborne, Osburn,
Ozbun, Freidman, Scroggins, and others. She reminded
those present that they should fill out a surname card in the genealogy room so
that others researching the same families would be able to contact you.
Two guests were present: Russ Fetter,
from Granite City, and the speaker, Sue Wolf.
Sue Wolf presented a program titled Journaling to
Preserve Family Stories.
Ms. Wolf discussed the different types
of journals that people keep and the types of information that people preserve
in their journals: chronicles, memoirs, recipes, meal plans, family stories,
etc. She said the purpose of journaling is to preserve family stories and
history for those family members who would not know those ancestors who lived
that story or history. Her presentation was informative and enjoyable.
Our new portable public address system
was used for the first time at this meeting. It worked fine, enabling those in
the back of the room to hear quite well.
