March
Meeting
On March 13, 2013, Shirley Daiber, long-time
resident of Madison County who has an interest in researching and writing about
history presented a program titled History of Marine.
The program started with a brief history of
the beginning of Marine -- the Marine Settlement, which was first called
Ferguson Settlement of Point Prairie, was established in 1813 (200 years ago)
and eventually was the start of the village of Marine. The presentation
continued with a discussion about the "old" businesses in Marine and
the families that operated them.
This presentation was well received and many in the audience were familiar with some of the businesses in Marine. Especially the bakery!
