The September 11, 2008, meeting of the Madison
County Genealogical Society was held at the Tri-Township Library in Troy,
Illinois, in the room occupied by the Troy Genealogical Society.
President, Robert Ridenour, called the
meeting to order.
Reports:
Librarian/Researcher Elsie Wasser reported that we had received four books for the
library:
Wentz Hardware - Its History - Three
Generations by Shirley A. Daiber.
Donated by the author.
Steal-Easy: My
Home Town, A Memoiric History of Crab Orchard,
Illinois by John M. Brewer, Rolla, Missouri. Donated anonymously.
Alton,
Illinois, The Story of a Picturesque and Busy City of the Mississippi (1912). Donated
anonymously.
History of Railroads in Edwardsville, Illinois, by William J. Harteau. Donated anonymously.
The following additions were made to the
Family Vertical Files:
Reynold, Edw. H. family
Wachmuth, John
Hartnett, John family
Riniker, Henry (of Switzerland)
Members of the Troy Genealogical
Society discussed the contents of their library. Those in attendance were
informed that the shelving system used in the genealogical library does not
follow the Dewey Decimal system exactly. However, the system used is easy to
follow.
There was a discussion of differing storage media, old and new, and the
advantages and disadvantages and life expectancy of each.
The formal presentation was followed by the attendees
perusing the available material for items of interest.
Hearing and seeing how other genealogical societies save and store their
information made for an interesting meeting. Our thanks to
the Troy Genealogical Society for being such gracious hosts.
